Sacha Lodge: The journey begins as you travel to Sacha Lodge in Quito, Ecuador's capital city. From here, a 25-minute flight takes you over the Andes Mountains' majestic snow-covered peaks and down over 8,500 feet into the Amazon Region. The flight destination is the port town of Puerto Francisco de Orellana, locally known as Coca, where you will be met by a bilingual guide and taken to a private dock. Here we will pause for a snack and to use the rest rooms before boarding a covered motorized canoe for a 2-hour, 50-mile trip down the sediment-rich waters of the Napo, the largest river in Ecuadorian Amazonia.

The Sacha Lodge is found within a 5000-acre private ecological reserve in Ecuador's Amazon region, an accessible yet pristine rainforest sanctuary where you may enjoy a true jungle adventure in safety and comfort.

Galapagos Islands: Take a day or two from Sacha Lodge to visit the world famous Galapagos Islands and discover the trail that Charles Darwin once traveled. The Galapagos are an archipelago of several volcanic islands located in the Pacific Ocean known for its rich biodiversity and indigenous animals.

The Otavalo Market, Peguche and Cotacachi Village: The Otavalos are a trader community by tradition, and are world-wide known for their wonderful work on textiles and tapestries. Visit the handcraft market and have a real contact with the community while bargaining for their products. Also visit the nearest villages including Peguche, an ancient community also known by there textiles and Cotacahi, famous for its beautiful leather products. Lunch at a typical hacienda is included, or if you want to have a closer contact with the community, enjoy lunch with a local family and learn about their traditions.

Rio Muchacho Organic Farm: located in rural San Vicente, the eight room lodge’s principal activity is agritourism, which includes organic agriculture and the use of alternative energy sources. The lodge also introduces visitors to the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the region.

The owners’, Nicola Mears and her husband Dario Leroux, commitment to the local community is reflected in their involvement with the local primary school, where students receive an education that is both practical and creative.
